A heart-touching experience that changed my perceptions! - Dr. Darshan Chhaya, Consultant Physician, Vadodara

At times, even our long term patients can become irritating with their long list of queries. Some of them cannot be solved by referring to even the best of medical journals! I had one such old couple who consulted me for their chronic ailments from last 10+ years. At times, it was a difficult task to revert to their medical myths, concerns and hesitations. Gradually, I started disliking their visits to my clinic.

Then, came a tremendous twist to the story!

After an unusual gap of 6 months, the old couple revisited my clinic, but this time with sad faces. On inquiring, there was an emotional outburst ! It was an untimely death of their one and only son in a road-side accident. It was just for their son, that they had left their beloved native place and decided to move to Vadodara after retiring from bank job. Their daughter-in-law immediately left them post her husband’s death. This was the second brutal jolt to them!

Moved by their tragic story, I curiously asked them about their future plans, to which their reply totally surprised me from within! They had decided not to relocate back to their native city, but, instead they wanted to stay in Vadodara only because I practiced here!

Suddenly I realised what relationship with me meant to them, over the years! It was definitely beyond medical consultation only! I was totally moved from within.

Perceptions do change!
